| Prior to the eruption of Mt St Helens in May of 1980 I was making weekly trips from Eugene to sell at the Portland Saturday Market. With rumors of an eminent eruption, I took along my medium format camera. On one of those trips just after dawn, the sun rose before an incoming weather front then vanished behind the low clouds. The unusual lighting of the mountain's silhouette was reminiscent of the Japanese screens of Mt Fuji. |
