REf.# 85 3220 ~ Unnamed Canyon, Arizona

The title of this image may seem unusual considering that Antelope Canyon in Arizona is now one of the most sought out destinations for photographers in the Southwest. My first visit to the canyon in 1982 proved photographically unsuccessful as I was unprepared to capture the unusual lighting of this canyon. Few photographers had been here at that time as the Navaho considered this site sacred and requested those who visited here not reveal it's location. I honored that request until it became evident the location of Antelope Canyon was well publicized worldwide. I have returned here several times to explore the limitless images. The image above won the Ray Atkinson Award for Best Landscape at the 1985 Oregon State Fair, Photographic Society of America's International Exhibition. An even greater honor was bestowed me when Ray Atkinson personally visited my gallery, then in Eugene, to compliment me!

Technical info: Linhof Master Technica 4x5 view camera; Kodak Vericolor HC film (100ASA)
