These falls cascade 120' over a formation of broken "columnar" basalt. This photograph covers only the lower portion of the falls which breaks over the stairstep effect. Located on the upper Sandy River on the West side of Mt Hood these falls are accessable until late fall when snow covers the trail or the footbridge across the Sandy is removed to avoid a washout from snowmelt. This photograph is taken in late spring when there is still a good runoff from Mt Hood to make a great photograph.
