REf.# 93 6412 ~ Cliff Palace, Mesa Verde, Colorado

Cliff Palace contained 150 rooms and 23 kivas and had a population of approximately 100 people. Out of the nearly 600 cliff dwellings within of the park, Cliff Palace is an exceptionally large dwelling which may have had special significance to the original occupants.  It is thought that Cliff Palace was a social, administrative site with high ceremonial usage.

On this particular day, we visited shortly after an early spring snowfall and found the access closed by a coating of ice on the steps and trail leading to the cliff dwelling. This photograph was from the best vantage point we could get.
